Gamersaurus Lex

What Players Are Saying

25 player reviews. A 5.0 rating. Adventures worth coming back for.

“Gamersaurus is absolutely incredible at making open sandboxes, and encouraging character creativity. His worlds have few, if any, rails in them and he doesn't get so wedded to his story creations so as to harm player agency. Instead, he knows his world and his NPCs, so he "recalculates" the world on the fly as players make choices. Normally a small action has a small effect, but sometimes the dice and the players take the story off in strange new directions, and he follows it with aplomb and creativity. He encourages rich character design, working with backstories and mechanical choices to make them worthwhile and feel "real" within the world. For long-running campaigns, he encourages continued contribution, posting snippets of story between sessions and encouraging players to write their own stories to integrate into his world. As an example, in one game he introduced an NPC with an oddly unsettling personality quirk, created on the fly to give him depth. My group latched onto this NPC and created a whole multipart story about him following our brief encounter as he moved through the world and followed his own storyline, even though we never intersected with him again. His worlds not only accept this kind of collaborative storytelling, they encourage it. I have played a lot of role-playing games across the decades, and Gamersaurus is my hands-down favorite. I have played in many games with him, and will likely play in many more.”

“The best thing about Gamersaurus Lex is that he truly sees his games as collaborative storytelling. Sure, there's plenty of rolling initiative and fighting bad guys, but the core of Lex's game is bringing players into his world and encouraging and allowing them to fully explore and expand what he's created. Although Lex plans for all sorts of likely directions the players might take, he doesn't skip a beat when players take a path he hadn't considered, and rather than trying to force the players into his established narrative, he changes the story to align with player choices. Like all great improvs, Lex's response is never, "No, you can't", but "Yes! And..." Everyone at Lex's table gets involved in the story, and he makes sure that everyone is involved. Some players are always more vocal than others, but Lex makes sure that everyone's voice is heard and that everyone's character has the ability to make his or her mark on his world. Out of the box thinking is highly encouraged, and as crazy as you get, Lex is right there to go along for the ride. Best GM I've ever had the pleasure to play with.”

“Lex is a great GM. His biggest strength is open-sandbox worldbuilding. Our party has thrown him some real loops, and he always rolls with it. He's really willing to take the adventure wherever you want, without holding you to artificial rails. He's also willing to incorporate your backstory. In a different game, I created an elaborate backstory for one of my characters. Not only did he weave it in really interesting ways into our game, he now uses the backstory family as part of the lore in the game he runs for others. Combat with him is fun, but challenging. Don't think you can just direct frontal-assault everything you encounter. Think about the combat, and use some good strategy. You will absolutely be rewarded for thinking things through. If you can find good, creative non-combat ways to achieve your objective, he's more than willing. Lex is very strong on roleplaying the NPC's and encouraging the players, to the extent they're comfortable. We do social-round encounters from time to time, which are often the best sessions. Lots of fun interactions and plot development.”

“Lex is an incredible DM. Pure and simple. He's charismatic, a wonderful storyteller, and always open to player input and creative solutions. He also knows how to keep the story flowing, which I find is one of the most important things for a DM to know. You'll never find your party in long awkward pauses or with no idea how to proceed when you're playing with Lex. Five stars is the max rating on Startplaying, I would give Lex a higher rating if I could!”

“We had a great introduction to Call of Cthulhu with Gamersaurus. He turned Edge of Darkness into a nail-biting closed-room horror scenario with no way out other than to get the job done or die trying. He eased us into Foundry VTT's new implementation of Call of Cthulhu with patience and good explanations when necessary. This helped us through the learning curve and enabled us to play without being distracted by which button to push and when. When he runs Call of Cthulhu again, sign up. You're in for a treat!”

“Lex is a phenomenal DM. What can't he do? From vivid worldbuilding to fun voice acting, player creativity, and creating an all-around fun environment, I can honestly say he's the best DM I've ever had. He makes each session feel alive, and I look forward to Fridays; if I could play in one of his games daily, I would! If you are looking for a DM that will make you feel like your backstory matters, look no further. If you want to care about NPCs and explore his worlds, he's your guy. Whether he's running a module or a homebrew, I'm confident you'll find something about his style to love!”

“Gamersaurus Lex has created a unique and fascinating version of Forgotten Realms' Moonsea. His history and detailed world building mean you don't play in his world so much as live in it. His NPCs have unique voices and personalities and feel like real individuals. He responds to PC actions so PCs can leave a lasting mark on his world, good or bad. He allows creative and inventive players to go off the path and rewards them for non-linear thinking. This is a GM who encourages you to build your own story in his world. If you enjoy an epic, seat of your pants, nailbiting ride through a rich fantasy world where high risk equals high reward, don't miss an opportunity to sign up with Gamersaurus Lex!”

— Juliet L'mous (23 Sessions)

“Lex was great at working with me to build a character that worked in the game (and world) we were playing in that still lined up with what I wanted to create. Lex uses a good blend of hard rules, role play and keeping the game a good time for the group.”

“Lex is a great GM he always finds great outcomes to unique player inputs. He has a lot of ingenuity in directing the gameplay. He finds ways to allow for a way out of potentially impossible situations, but the players have to find it. Very challenging, fair, and fun! Great roll play of the NPCs.”

— Nick

“The first game was amazing, and the DM helped a ton in setting up the VTT and everything else while using it! Enjoyable character creation options and combat/roleplay are balanced just right in my opinion. The main group that was already established was very friendly and welcoming, and made the whole experience immersive.”

— Razgriz (32 Sessions)

“I am thoroughly enjoying my campaign with Lex. He is very knowledgeable, drew me into the game world immediately, and is a great story teller. He's extremely encouraging to each player in our game and truly makes us feel like we belong in this world. He also loves it when we operate outside the box. I look forward to each session and can't wait to see where we go!”

— Cynthia (46 Sessions)

“Great DM - extremely communicative and empathetic. Lex makes all players at the table feel welcome, regardless of experience. I've played in a lot of campaigns and was impressed at how quickly Lex got our group up and running, while also ensuring that the players interacted with one another outside of the weekly sessions. Would not hesitate to book another campaign with him!”

— Barry (4 Sessions)

“Lex honestly has a fantastic presence as a GM. He knows his rules and is always able to flex them for the sake of fun at the table. He will encourage the group to come up with creative solutions and keeps reminding them of key facts we've learned to help us with puzzles or difficult decisions. And he always shows up ready to play with enthusiasm. THAT you can't put a price on. Give Lex a try.”

— Daniel (6 Sessions)

“Refreshing to see a GM that values actual roleplaying rather than the usual wave of badguys approach. Sets the mood and will adapt to your skill level so for new people he gives time and flexibility and for more experienced he will keep you on your toes. 100% enjoyment and I really like that old feeling of dodging that arrow with my name on it and strutting out the end of an encounter with a bag of coins and a tale for the bards to sing of ............minus the part of screaming in a high pitched (yet manly )voice . Definitely give Gamersaurus Lex a go.”

— Craig (81 Sessions)

“Gamersaurus Lex creates a rich world within the Moonsea region of the Forgotten Realms. His campaign has had many iterations and has had many layers of player interactions to allow it to grow organically. Demonstrating that your actions matter and make a difference, but they also can come at a cost. He is not averse to allowing the players to choose pathways not well established, and he will always appreciate role playing and actions that are entertaining. Mind you, don't always try and avoid his plot hooks as he does a lot of preparation that can lead to your being well entertained, too. Actions you take affect the broader environment, if done at story appropriate times. If you role play and make appropriate decisions, you will also be rewarded. Combat doesn't have to be the only resolution, and (in fact) it may be the least successful resolution. Sometimes, you will be put into situations where considered thought and actions will be the only things that will get you through. Ahhh, suboptimal actions can lead to suboptimal results, but if, after seeing your cleric, death persists, please have your next character concept ready. The game environment is run through the Forge with many active add-ons, allowing many rules/actions to become automated, allowing the players to apply the level of effort that they want to their character. If you want to apply effort to your role-playing, then you will be rewarded with a richer experience, as well as potentially some other rewards as you entertain the game master (and the other players). His games are weeeellllll worth the playing.”
